Spiritual Interior Design - Part 2
Chakra Connections
Is your home a stress-free environment? Or is it just a sparsely decorated enclosure?
Below is a diagram of the 7 Chakras which run through our physical bodies. These are our internal energy fields, which connect our physical body, mind and soul, to our spiritual higher self and the universe. Just as each room within our external material home serves a purpose, so too does each spiritual room within our physical home.
Each Chakra is located in a specific position within our physical home for a very good reason as they are all responsible for performing a specific function. While the coverings used to form the exterior of both our physical and external homes obviously differ greatly, the interior design of both of our dwellings and their unique functions are very similar in many aspects.
Chakra 1 - Root
This Chakra represents Stability.
The Root Chakra is located at the bottom of our Spine.
The colour of this Chakra is Red
The Root Chakra is the starting point of our Chakra system, and serves to keep our other six Chakra centred, grounded and solid.
The Root Chakra relates perfectly to the earth and soil on which our external homes are initially built. Just as the foundations of our external home must be strong enough to bear the entire weight of the building which rests on top, so too does our Root Chakra need to be strong enough to withstand the weight of our physical home and all the spiritual rooms therein.
If the base which supports our physical home becomes unstable or suffers any type of damage, the complete structure will be at risk of collapse, just like the foundations of our external home. Therefore, it is vital to ensure a robust, sturdy and reliable base is formed from the very start of the building process and maintained continuously, as both of our homes simply cannot exist without it.
Chakra 2 - Spleen
This Chakra represents Order.
The Spleen Chakra is located near our Mid Abdomen.
The colour of this Chakra is Orange
Our Spleen Chakra emotes feelings of pleasure, warmth, wellbeing, optimism, self-love, health, happiness, nurturing and comfort.
The Spleen Chakra relates to our Kitchen within our external home. Our kitchen is generally the room where order and organisation are generally applied, as we spend a lot of our time cooking for ourselves and others. Pleasurable experiences and meaningful bonds are established in this room, through feeding and nurturing.
Our senses of taste and smell, along with all sensual and exciting experiences are heightened by this Chakra, as it allows us to feel the optimum level of self-love, when we know our body is being fed with what it needs and deserves.
Our kitchens within both of our homes need to offer us a feeling of comfort, enjoyment, and a sense of wellbeing, if we are to flourish and remain healthy. This is why a regular diet of fresh fruit helps to maintain a healthy gut within our spiritual internal kitchen, and why displaying brightly coloured fruit in bowls within our external kitchens was they both match the Orange hue of this Chakra are important.
Our chosen interior design within this room for our external home is usually of a more neutral and clinical nature. This is to maintain the practicality and cleanliness, which is generally understood for the good practice of health and safety, within any food preparation area.
Chakra 3 - Solar Plexus
This Chakra represents Wisdom.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located above our Belly button.
The colour of this Chakra is Yellow.
Our Solar Plexus Chakra emotes will power, decision making, self-direction, confidence and action.
The Solar Plexus Chakra relates to our Living Room in our external home. Our living room is often used as the hub or centre of our home, because when we are not eating, bathing or sleeping, we spend the majority of our time in the living room. The living room is the perfect space for entertaining ourselves by engaging in music, reading, hobbies, watching t.v, dining. Deep connections are made here, both with others and our-selves, as the Solar Plexus Chakra ensures our confidence is strengthened as we are empowered with enlightenment and motivation. We often use this space for social gatherings and conversing with family, friends and visitors, but our living room is also a place where we are happy to spend time alone. It is common to incorporate the Chakra hue of yellow in our living rooms of our external home, as this is the ultimate uplifting and enlightening colour in relation to the sun and the beach.
Chakra 4 - Heart
This Chakra represents Love.
The Heart Chakra is located within our Chest.
The colour of this Chakra is Green
Our Heart Chakra serves as the lifeblood of our physical existence, and is the ‘seat’ of our Soul.
This Chakra relates to the overall heartbeat, energy, aura, feeling, atmosphere and vibration within our external home. The heart Chakra omits one of the highest frequencies in the universe, as this is the centre of empathy, kindness, honesty, trust, compassion, patience and love.
This is the spirit which eminates from within both of our homes, and is felt by both ourselves and others. The vibe of our external home is often felt more powerfully by others due to their infrequent visits to our homes, while our own regular occupancy can often result in our senses becoming dulled. This can also relate to our physical home, but in reverse, as we can become less aware of the aura or vibe we omit when we fail to spend less internal time within ourselves.
Many of us understand the importance of regularly cleansing the air by opening the windows in our external home to encourage fresh air to flow and circulate throughout our rooms, and stale air to be released. Therefore it is imperative to treat our physical home in the same manner, as it is vital we only allow ourselves to breath in fresh and unpolluted air into our lungs. This will enable our hearts to remain open, allowing positive and loving thoughts, feelings and emotions to flow through us also.
Decorating our external home with different shades of green, plants, fresh flowers, dried flowers, pictures of scenery, and animals all represent the green hue of the heart Chakra. Anything that visually, mentally or metaphorically brings the outdoors into both of our external and spiritual homes, fills us with a strong sense of beauty and contentment, as this allows us to stay connected to nature.
Chakra 5 - Throat
This Chakra represents Power.
This Chakra is located within our Throat.
The colour of this Chakra is Blue.
Our Throat Chakra serves as the centre of all communication. This is the provider of all sounds, which we make and hear. This Chakra relates to our Bathroom within our external home. This is a serene room, filled with calmness and tranquillity. When we feel the need to listen and hear ourselves and connect with our higher thoughts, this room offers that request.
The sense of release and healing through the soothing echo we receive from this room, along with the sound of running water is the perfect setting for clarity of mind. Deep communication on a telepathic and spiritual level can be obtained here without any audible or visual distractions.
Many bathrooms are decorated in light shades of blue, green, and white, to represent the cool, clear water of the ocean. Other hues such as silver, cream, peach or lemon, will also offer the soft and airy feel of this clean space. Any resemblance to the sea, the beach or nautical life is always favoured in this space such as shells, pebbles, sand, seaweed and starfish.
Chakra 6 – Third Eye
This Chakra represents Imagination.
The Third Eye Chakra is located in the centre of our Forehead.
The colour of this Chakra is Indigo.
Our Third Eye Chakra emotes visualisation, spiritual awareness, psychic awareness, and meditation.
Our Third Eye Chakra is also known as our ‘Minds Eye’.
This Chakra relates to our Bedroom within our external home. Our bedroom is the place where we can find the deepest connection to the universe through spiritual insight while we sleep.
The Third Eye Chakra is also known as ‘OM’. This is the mind's default position when in a meditative state. Our spiritual ‘third eye’ is our connection to our psychic abilities, and allows us to see what our external vision cannot.
Every positive idea and inspirational thought stems from here, therefore it is generally favourable to have a bedroom within our exterior home designed in a basic, low key and stripped back manner. The fewer items of furniture in our bedrooms the better, as this will ensure the flow of all higher energy is not blocked or reduced. Anything more than the basic essentials for the bedroom may cause clutter, which can cause visual, mental and sensory distraction when we are both awake and asleep, both consciously and subconsciously. Just as our bedroom within our external home needs to be relaxing and free from distractions, so too does our spiritual bedroom of our mind within our physical home.
Colours which are harmonious for our external bedroom are touches of strong dark hues such as indigo blue, purple, or black, offset with softer shades of white, ivory, lilac and mint green. Incorporated correctly, these dark and light blends of colour can create a relaxing and peaceful space, perfect to encourage a universal balance of higher learning and the attraction of opposing energies and balance in the law of yin yang philosophy.
Chakra 7 - Crown
This Chakra represents Understanding.
The Crown Chakra is located at the Top of our Head.
The colour of this Chakra is Violet.
Our Crown Chakra is the highest point of our physical and spiritual being, and emotes feelings of peace, joy, serenity, and enlightenment.
This Chakra relates to our Roof on our external home.
The purpose of this Chakra is to ensure the other six Chakras and our entire physical being is in complete alignment with our innate intentions and will.
Both our external and physical roofs offer shelter, security, protection and complete understanding of their own purpose and the purpose of every room it covers, while ensuring each one stays connected to the next.
Without a strong, reliable and sturdy roof, all the rooms below would not be of any use whatsoever. Therefore it is imperative that our roof be protected from all external damage, if it is to maintain its position, as the head of the home.
If anything is broken or needs mending on the roof of either of our external or physical homes, this defect must be fixed urgently. We must act swiftly to avoid any further damage being extended downwards onto and into any of the rooms below.
If we have access to our loft or roof space within our external home, it is advisable to cover any items being stored therein, under a suitable weather proof sheet for protection. This will protect against any possible weather damage to any valuable possessions stored here, in the event of any roof tiles becoming loose. Covering the contents of the loft space underneath a plain sheet in the hue of either violet, white or gold can offer added spiritual protection and support, as these colours are representational of the universal bright light of healing, protection and higher power, which our crown Chakra omits.
Installing a clear bright light bulb in our loft space is also advisable. This will enable us to obtain both full sight and a clear view, whenever we enter this space which offers both practical and spiritual clarity, safe in the knowledge that there is nothing hidden or lurking in any dark corners, either physically or mentally.
Our physical home can also benefit from this heavenly light, as visualisation of a bright violet, white or gold light, when in a relaxed or a meditative state, will help to provide protection and understanding of our higher self. This visualisation will also help to free our minds from all negative thoughts and beliefs, and prevent our minds from becoming subconsciously overloaded or blocked. Just like our roof of our external home, we must also ensure our crown of our physical home is protected from any external threat, as everything we hold internally from this highest point downward, is invaluable to our spiritual and physical existence and evolution.
