Spiritual Interior Design - Part 1
Dual Dwellings
Do you treat your home as a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation? Or do you treat your home simply as a convenient place to just eat, sleep and bathe? Is your home a temple? Or a service station, where everyone and anyone can just pass through anytime, day or night? We may not always realise it, but we are a blessed human breed with more abundance than we can ever imagine, and we are granted many gifts from birth. There is however one special gift which we have all been born with, which is ultimately worthy of unwavering reverence. This is a unique gift of the highest order. This is the gift of our very own ‘Spiritual Second Home’.
Our first home is the conventional home which we are all familiar with and accustomed to. These are the external buildings in which we dwell. These buildings are sourced from both man made and earthly materials, and constructed by the blood sweat and toil of humankind, but the creation of our second home is unequivocal. This ‘One Of A Kind’ residence is fashioned by a universal unseen hand, and is ingeniously crafted with unconditional love, grace, and devotion. The design of this home is unique to each individual, as well as magical, bewildering and beautifully complex from the inside out. We do not even need to pay any rent or mortgage for our occupancy, as it is absolutely free! Our second home is us, the home of our Physical Human Body.
Home literally is where the heart is, and within our physical human body of flesh and bones is our spiritual Interior design. Our spiritual Interior design hosts a collection of precious gems of remarkable and unequivocal stature, such as our heart, our lungs, our gut and many other wondrous organs. These interior design treasures are of such high quality and value that they are priceless, vital components designed not just to keep our physical body in optimum health, but also to ultimately ensure we remain completely connected to our higher selves, the universe and each other.
Home Improvements
Is your home a place of love and joy? A place which is well kept, clean, organised and inspiring? Our physical home is remarkably connected to our external bricks and mortar home in many ways. How we treat the interior of our external home should be greatly influenced and retrospective of how we treat the interior of our physical home, and vice versa.
Within every external home there is always room for improvement. We all recognise the need to periodically update the interior decor of our external home in the hope of increasing its value and worth, but how many of us apply this method to the interior design of our own physical home? We often choose to spend excessive time, effort, and money on the upkeep of the exterior of both our homes, fully aware that others will initially judge us based on that external appearance only. This means we are often failing to concentrate fully on what really matters, which should be what we are actually decorating and lining the interiors of our homes with.
If we are honest, at some point we have all tried to disguise the neglected aspects of our interior within our external home, and we often do this with full knowledge of how we are simply papering over the cracks. Yet we often transfer this deceptive mindset into our physical home also, as we endeavour to cover over and ignore both visual and indeed mental eye sores within. We behave in this covert manner in the hope that these imperfections and flaws can remain hidden from both ourselves and others, and even hopefully somehow disappear. Yet deep down we know that until these issues are tackled head on and dealt with, they will forever remain an underlying area of concern.
There are many ways in which we can improve our homes, and one common method which we can use within both our external and physical homes is to increase the capacity. Adding extra space internally to both our physical or external home is a sure way to add instant value, and the most profitable and practical option is to expand upwards. We can extend our capacity horizontally if we wish, however, this is always going to be a limited choice due to restrictions regarding environmental factors and possible health hazards, which can arise for both of our external and physical dwellings respectfully.
Expanding upwards allows us to remain firmly routed to the foundations of our home while extending our internal quality of living. By adding more rooms onto the top of our homes, we are able to create much more space to stretch and grow. Our external home does however need to adhere to all legal building restrictions and regulations, but gratefully for our spiritual physical home this option of mental expansion of knowledge and learning is completely limitless. The opportunity to climb higher and elevate periodically, adding fresh and inspiring space in which to fill with a greater sense of well-being and internal comfort, is a sure way to turn our humble homes, into opulent and abundant palaces.
D.I.Y
Is your physical home in need of a little D.I.Y? Or is your physical home crying out for a complete overhaul, or renovation? When something within either of our homes is broken or damaged and needs to be fixed, our first thought is often to look for help externally. We employ the assistance of specialists in the hope they will be able to help us to solve or resolve the problem, as we often feel we lack the necessary know-how or experience to remedy the issue ourselves. But what if we have to wait weeks or even months to get an appointment for the work required? What if we cannot afford the cost of repair? What options do we have then? This is a dilemma we all face regarding both our external and physical homes all too often.
These are the times when our self-sufficiency needs to be deployed, as what one person can do another can learn to do also, or we can at least try. Instead of wasting vital time waiting for someone else to make our problem their priority, we should learn to embark on some D.I.Y with the aim to tackle the situation ourselves. Sometimes the only way for us to begin to solve our problems or mend anything is to actually do it ourselves as we often rely too heavily on others, and if they let us down, fear can often take over and we start to panic. This response can prompt us to make rash decisions and even seek further advice or assistance from someone else, who may be ill equipped for the job, often unfortunately resulting in an escalation of the problem. Sometimes we may even choose to blame others and try to make them responsible for our problem not being fixed or getting worse, due to their lack of action to rescue us from our own unfortunate circumstances.
Then there are the times when we simply resign ourselves to defeat, deciding to do absolutely nothing to fix our problem, as we have become disheartened and disengaged in the process. Ultimately none of these responses will help to remedy the situation. The only outcome achieved by any unsavoury or stagnant behaviour, will be the result of us becoming stuck in the heart of the problem, often for much longer than we actually need to be. The more seemingly difficult, time-staking and energy consuming jobs are the ones which we regularly avoid taking direct action on ourselves, and we are more than willing to pay someone else to deal with.
Whichever of our two homes the repair is required for - whether it is our external home where we may be looking to hire a skilled trades person, or our physical home as we seek assistance from a health professional, therapist or counsellor - references will need to be sought and their qualifications verified. This route we know will undoubtedly take up even more of our time and energy, as we will need to deploy our full undivided attention, dedication and commitment, if we are to undertake the necessary painstaking research required to ensure we find the right candidate. Obviously this will mean that we may need to put in much more work than we were initially prepared to do.
The key to self-help is to not take on too much work at once, but simply try our best to start with the smallest jobs first. These are the little irritants that we tend to try to ignore, which stubbornly continue to show up. These are the annoying and bothersome tasks which lurk continuously in our subconscious thoughts, which we know we will be able to solve quite quickly with a little effort, but we choose to just keep closing our eyes to them in the hope that they will simply mend themselves or evaporate. Choosing to fully focus our energy on the smaller tasks initially, will inevitably produce a much faster sense of achievement with each minor stage of completion. while enabling us to experience a boost in our self-confidence to continue forward onto the next and possibly more challenging task.
We know that by choosing to do nothing about our interior issues is the worst thing we could possibly do, as the problem will not only remain, but it will steadily get worse. We will be aware daily that prolonging seeking help will inevitably be more costly in the long term, financially for our external home and both mentally and physically for our physical home. If we continue to ignore the necessary maintenance for our interior, we may unfortunately arrive at the stage where we have allowed our home to deteriorate to such an extent, that we can worryingly become accustomed to and even develop a blind spot for this condition of concern.
The daily threats to both our physical and external homes are many. It is vital that regular maintenance checks are undertaken to ensure our homes remain strong and secure from top to bottom, inside and out. We must do our utmost to ensure we never reach a stage where either of our homes have become so unfit for purpose, that they are ultimately a health hazard to either ourselves or others. Therefore, it is imperative we carry out regular and extensive checks of our homes in order to allow any defects to be identified and rectified without delay.
It is only natural for us to expect our home to keep us safe and secure. Nobody wants to live in accommodation which is deemed unstable, or prone to collapse under pressure, therefore we should not expect either our spirit or our soul to reside within the physical home of our bodies is such perilous conditions. It is this lack of pride in our homes that can inevitably lead to devastating circumstances such as the threat of eviction, which can result in our home becoming vacant, and even more devastating, the possibility of future demolition.
It is true that nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors, but whatever we try to ignore, deny or hide inside, always has a sneaky way of surfacing eventually, often causing shame, embarrassment and guilt. Sometimes we just need to have a little more faith in our own natural abilities as inventive, talented and multi-skilled beings, as we often find it difficult to remember we are all innately highly creative, mutable and knowledgeable individuals. Of course, we all need help sometimes, but this can be reserved as an extra option, after all other avenues of self-sufficiency and self-trust have first been explored. After all, no one will ever be able to take more care of our own homes then us.
